Line Boredom Busters: Getting to Know You

When I say shortly, I really mean shortly.

Let's face it; we've all been here before. It starts in the esplanade.  You hear the music, those incessant trumpets, and it lures you there in a trance. Indiana... Indiana... Of course, you've also planned to be at Disneyland on New Years Eve, the busiest day of the year. Naturally. You and entire population of Rhode Island are crammed into the park like sardines and are shuffling to your various destinations. Very. Slowly.

You cross the threshold into Adventureland and nearly run smack into the back of a Hawaiian-shirt-and-fanny-pack-clad man in front of you. It's a line, and it's not for Dole Whips. You sigh, and weave through the crowd. Jungle Cruise, 15 minutes, not too shabby. But, you nearly have a heart attack when you read the sign for Indiana Jones. 120 frakkin' minutes! Fast Pass no longer available! Lines longer than the first time you rode it the year it opened!!!

So, behold, the creation of the Line Boredom Buster. Little games that you can play in lines when Fast Pass just isn't an option.

And here's the first: Getting to Know You
disneylandgettingtoknowyou

This can be played a couple of different ways:
1. You can use it as a conversation starter. Ask the questions to your friends and families and be prepared to be amazed by their answers.
2. As a game! Print out enough copies for your entire party and pass it out with a pencil while in line. Have everyone write down their answers and collect. Then, read the answers out loud and have everyone try to figure out who wrote what. It's a little more difficult to play successfully with people you know very well, since you can probably peg who answered what fairly easily. But, it's still a little fun, and can be surprising. If you're feeling rather ambitious, invite some line strangers to play along (I love making line friends).

Now, download instructions:
-You'll first need to have Adobe Reader. Many computers come with the program, but if you don't have it, you can download it here. It's free!
-I have uploaded this game on scribd.com so that I could embed it into the blog. Simply click on the download button and it will download on to your computer. Or, click on the link above, and it will take you to the website. If you have a facebook account, you can use that to sign in to scribd and download or print off the document. It's that easy!
-If you don't have a facebook account, or don't wish to use yours to sign in, go to scribd.com and sign into the disneylandgames account. The user name is disneylandgames and the password is zipadeedoodah. Once signed in, head over to My Documents or search for disneylandgettingtoknowyou and download or print from there.
-I am working on setting up step-by-step download instructions for the blog, so if you hit any snags, leave a comment here or email me at robin.disneylandgames@gmail.com

Hey, why don't we get to know each other? Comment below with your answers to the questions from the document. Check out mine in the comments section. I can't wait to see how you all answer the questions.

  1. Ready for my answers:

    1. How old were you on your first Disneyland trip? I believe I was 2 or 3, but I should probably ask my parents to confirm that.

    2. How many times have you been to Disneyland? Oh man, a lot. More than 25, probably pushing 40.

    3. The ride most likely to cause you to pee yourself before you actually get on it? I'm pretty fearless when it comes to rides, but I always get a bit of a tickle before heading on to Tower of Terror. I just love the feeling.

    4. If you could get trapped in one land for a day, where would you be and why? I love New Orleans Square. I would love to just poke around and people watch there all day. I would bring my sketch book and actually entertain the delusion that I can do more than doodle. I would read a book by the fountain and eat lunch at the Blue Bayou or Cafe Orleans. And maybe I would try to sneak into Club 33. It could happen.

    5. Which character would you most likely knock kids out of your way to get to? I met Miss Piggy once, probably prevented her from going on her break for a good 10 minutes. But it was Miss Piggy!

    6. If you worked at Disneyland, what would be your ideal job? I'd love to be a skipper on the Jungle Cruise.

    7. Must have souvenir every time you visit? I'm a sucker for magnets. And I always stop by D Street to see if they have any new vintage-y attraction shirts.

    8. Favorite snack in the park? Dole Whip! No, churros! No, saltwater taffy! No, pineapple spears! It's so hard to decide.

    9. Favorite non-ride attraction? Hands down, World of Color. I don't often sit and watch the shows, but I will always have time for World of Color.

    10. Ride you would insist someone go on if they had never been to the park before? Probably Indiana Jones, since it's uniquely Disneyland.

    11. Favorite spot to people watch? Sitting at the window at Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor on Main Street. Perfect place to watch people come by and play "1-2-3 He's Yours" (another post for another day)

    12. Number one Disneyland secret that you bring out to amaze your friends? Um, probably the free lockers by Grizzly River Run. Seriously, none of my spouting off of trivia comes close to amazing my friends as that.
